A city skatepark is facing an uphill battle to stay in business after a "dramatic loss of earnings" last month and rising costs to run.

Delta Four Skatepark, located in Delta Close off Mile Cross Lane, has been running since May 2021 but is in danger of going under.

Max Ward, who lives in Hellesdon, bought the skatepark in June 2020 after previously working for the previous owners who opened in 2013.

The 25-year-old is hoping that the lease can be changed to his Community Interest Company (CIC) to become not-for-profit and receive funding to help improve its facilities.

Max said: "We haven't been able to raise enough money to get the lease changed because the last few months have been very difficult for us.

"Last month ws really difficult and we've seen a dramatic loss of earnings.

"The aim is to basically survive and currently we're trading as a limited company, but we want to trade as not-for-profit, as any money we make goes straight back into the park to make it the best we can for our users - so we're just asking for a little help."

A GoFundMe has been set up to help raise enough money to change over the lease, with the money raised covering the cost of solicitors and any additional donations would be used to help with the day-to-day costs of running the park.

Max added: "If we manage to raise this money and hopefully secure some grant funding, we'd love to change and improve the park while expanding our other facilities like the shop area, viewing platform, and café.

"It's a really important place and we've got a group of kids that are here every chance they get.

"It's been such a big part of the community, for me growing up, as well as seeing kids grow up around it.

"It keeps them off the streets and focussed on a active hobby to enjoy."
