A Broads business is gearing itself up for a busy year on the water as it launches its 2023 season.

Thorpe St Andrew-based Bishy Barney Boats operates from River Green in the heart of the town.

Regularly spotted on Norfolk's waterways, Bishy's Boats are ready to hire after a winter of hibernation and repair as of Sunday, February 19.

Bishy Barney Boats, owned by Mark Appel, has eight boats for day hire - seven electric and one diesel - and is popular with tourists and locals wanting a staycation alike.

He is certain that despite the cost of living crisis affecting businesses and individuals, the coming year will be a prosperous one.

"Bishy Boats first started with just four boats back in 2018, and each year has seen steady sustainable growth," Mark said.

"We are very grateful for the continued support.

"This year people are feeling the pinch, but Bishy will continue to be here and we will always give the best possible value for money for a great time on the water."

Bishy prides itself on providing an opportunity for people to take to the water and into the heart of the Norfolk Broads, whilst also offering a unique waterside perspective into the heart of historical Norwich.

One of the first aboard was Thorpe councillor Ian Mackie.

He said: "Since 2018 Bishy Boats have become a much-loved feature of River Green and part of the local leisure economy.

"We had a number of trips out last year and look forward to many more in 2023.

"Both boys Vinnie, six, and Reggie, three, especially love being out on the water.

"Supporting local businesses and employment is very important and having the gateway to the Broads on our doorstep is amazing.

"It’s a real positive for the whole community."
