A couple who have been battling to prove a patch of land near Norwich airport belongs to them believe they have been successful, ahead of an auction next month.

Thomas and Sacha Bibby were evicted in January 2020 due to the dispute, after living on the plot in Holt Road, Hellesdon for more than two years.

Since then it has seemingly been used as a dumping ground for fly-tipping but Mr Bibby has previously said it wasn't their fault the site became an eyesore.

But now Mr Bibby has said he has the relevant paperwork to prove he owns the land and settle the saga once and for all.

Mr Bibby, 40, said: "I want to highlight that the land is not abandoned and that it's registered in my name because the council have always harped on about who owns it.

"My family has owned the land for 40 years and I took it over from my father in 2002.

"But when I wanted to sell the land the deeds became an issue. However, I've now got them from the Land Registry.

"Because it's private property I want people to stop going in and fly-tipping the place."

The 2.11-acre plot is going to auction on March 13, with an initial guide price of £500,000.

In January 2022, Norwich City Council said it did "not hold records of land ownership and understands that the land is not registered with the Land Registry".

This newspaper approached the city council again after speaking with Mr Bibby but it would not provide comment on the matter.

Mr Bibby added: "I want people to know it's not nice being stereotyped and have people thinking we just park on a piece of land and suddenly own it."
