Cops have issued descriptions of two mobility scooters which were stolen from a 98-year-old woman in the city centre, leaving her housebound.

Jean Norris had her mobility scooters pinched from a communal garage in St Stephen's Square last week after its door had to be left open for repair work when a car accidentally crashed in to it.

Thieves first stole her red scooter on Wednesday at about 4.30pm, before returning between 2pm on Friday and 2pm on Saturday to take her second gold scooter, which had been hidden under a rug.

Now police have issued descriptions of the two vehicles.

Officers say one is a red PGA Hobbit with a green cushion and a basket on the front. The other is a gold Kymco K-Line scooter.

Cops say a charger for the scooter and a black and yellow rug covering the item were also taken.

Mrs Norris thought she had kept her scooters safe by taking their keys up to her flat, which is part of a building of 20 apartments.

She said: "It's unfortunate. Someone drove in to the garage and smashed the door and its mechanics so it doesn't go up and down on its own.

"They've had to leave it open while they're fixing it and repairs take time.

"It's so jolly mean, especially to come back again and take the other one.

"I've seen the CCTV from the first theft and they just wander in, roam around and drive away nonchalantly with everything.

"This has made me feel indignant."

Thieves were caught on CCTV footage, which has been passed on to the police.

Mrs Norris and the police have urged people to look out for scooters which have been put up for sale or abandoned.
