The pharmacy where an off-the-lead dog caused an altercation between two customers, has apologised for not following its store policy.

Last week Mary Adams, 55, had verbal abuse hurled at her after confronting the owner of the Staffordshire bull terrier at Boots Pharmacy in Lawson Road.

Now the health and beauty giant has apologised for Ms Adams' upsetting experience, which she had described as "triggering".

A Boots spokeswoman said: "We are sorry to hear about Mary's experience at our pharmacy in Lawson Road.

"We do not allow dogs into our stores, aside from service and guide dogs, and are sorry that this policy was not enforced on this occasion."

Ms Adams said at the time: "It's unfair on people who may not be comfortable around dogs, or actual assistance dogs that are working who could be distracted, or worse, attacked by an off-the-lead dog.

"I just think owners need to take other people into consideration when out in public."

It's understood that Ms Adams was checked on by a member of staff after the incident.
