I like to keep my home vaguely tidy and clean.

But it is not always possible though when life gets in the way, be it from work or family life.

The concept of keeping your home spick and span is not a new one but the craze of sorting out your cupboards, drawers and shelves was sparked a few years ago with Marie Kondo.

Known as the queen of decluttering, she has written four books on organizing, which have collectively sold millions of copies around the world.

She achieved cult status after the success of her Netflix series Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, released in 2019.

In August 2021, Netflix also released a follow-up show, Sparking Joy with Marie Kondo.

The professional organiser, who has a net worth of net worth of around $7m, has recently admitted that she has "kind of given up" on keeping her own home tidy after having three children because spending time with her family was more important.

She said: "My home is messy, but the way I am spending my time is the right way for me at this time at this stage of my life."

I wholeheartedly agree with what Marie Kondo is saying because however nice it is to have things in order at home, it is impractical when you have a family.

A lot of the time there are crafting materials on the kitchen table as well as Lego, puzzles and play food on the living room floor.

When I do tidy it up, the toys get pulled back out again in seconds making my previous efforts to tidy pointless.

I do like to keep the house clean in general, but I would much rather a messy home where my children were having fun than a spotless one where my family is bored and grumpy.
