Local charity Star Throwers has launched a new campaign to mark World Cancer Awareness Day aimed at helping people suffering with lymphoedema.

Today marks the annual date of awareness but every three years a new focus is decided upon, with 'closing the care gap' decided for between 2022 and 2024.

Cancer support charity Star Throwers, based in Wymondham, is aiming to raise £6,000 to help fund its free lymphoedema support sessions, through an online JustGiving page.

This would allow them to fund 100 of the sessions to combat the condition, which can see fluid build up in the limbs after some cancer treatments.

Star Throwers aim to combat barriers patients face in receiving support, such as private sessions being at least £60 each, as well as lengthy NHS waiting lists.

Emma, who has received support from the charity, said: "I’ve been having manual lymphatic drainage massage with Lucy, she is also amazing as I feel there’s an improvement already.

"Any symptoms afterwards are what is completely normal and expected. I feel content at Star Throwers and able to just be me."

Meanwhile, the Big C is bringing back their Big Cuppa initiative.

The Norfolk charity, which has branches across the region including in Norwich, Wymondham and Dereham, is encouraging people to hold their own events.

People can register for a free fundraising pack through Big C’s website, where donations can be made, and various events are being held around the county.

"At Big C, our aim is to support as many local people as possible or who are affected by cancer, providing tailored holistic emotional and practical care to help improve outcomes.
