The owners of one of Norwich's best-loved independent bars have made the tough decision to close the business amid the cost of living crisis.
There has been mystery surrounding Frank's Bar in Bedford Street in recent weeks with the lights off and no updates given.
Owners and cousins James Wingfield and Ella Williams have now confirmed that the bar closed permanently more than a fortnight ago.
In a statement, the pair said: "Dear friends of Frank’s Bar. It is with a very heavy heart that we bring you the sad news that our lovely little café-bar closed its doors for the very last time on Saturday, January 7.
"Our once healthy business has been decimated - firstly by the pandemic and more recently by the cost of living crisis, leaving us no option than to close the business down."
Frank's Bar first opened on April 17 2008 and it was due to celebrate its 15th year in the Norwich Lanes this spring.
It was a place people could meet, eat and drink morning until night, with special events such as a film club, and there was also a cosy courtyard to enjoy in the summer.
The pair added in their statement that issues with renewing the lease meant they have been unable to find a new owner.
They thanked their "incredible staff" who have made their dream possible for more than a decade.
Mr Wingfield said: "We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to all our lovely customers, our amazing staff and our friends in the wonderful Norwich Lanes that helped make Frank’s Bar such a special place to work, rest and play over the last 15 years."
Ms Williams said: “It has been an absolute joy being part of Norwich’s independent scene over the last 15 years.
"We will miss it greatly and are only sorry we didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to you all.
"I hope our fellow independents are able to navigate the challenges ahead and are supported in doing so as they are truly what makes Norwich so special.”
