From a historic street to the hustle and bustle of the Norwich Lanes, these cafés in the city offer great views as well as delicious food and drink.

1. Britons Arms Coffee House and Restaurant, Elm Hill

Chef Richard Ellis took on the Britons Arms at the corner of Elm Hill in late 2021 and it boasts views looking out on the cobbled street, with many buildings dating back to Tudor times. 

On offer during the daytime is a range of breakfasts and lunches, including fry-ups, sandwiches, toasties and soup, with its cakes and scones also very popular. 

2. The Refectory Café at Norwich Cathedral, The Close

Bread Source is the current operator at The Refectory Café in Norwich Cathedral, which was previously run by Jarrold.

From pastries to rolls, there are lots of delicious treats on the bakery counter and you can look out on the Cathedral grounds.

3. The Merchant's House, Fye Bridge Street

This charming café bar looks out across Fye Bridge and the colourful houses on Quayside that line the River Wensum.

The Merchant's House also has a secret courtyard garden behind it, which is the perfect spot to unwind in warmer weather.

4. Strangers Coffee, Pottergate

It does not get more local than this, with the coffee brewed a stone's throw away in Dove Street.

Sit and watch the world go by and look out on the buzzing Norwich Lanes from a seat by the window. 

5. The Pantry at Jarrold, London Street

The café and restaurant on the third floor of Jarrold, accessible by stairs or lift, serves everything from breakfast ciabattas to carveries. 

There is loads of seating and while you are in the store, make sure to check out the food hall in the basement, packed with local goodies and even a cheese room.
