A man who punched another reveller with a bottle during a Norwich nightclub row over feet being up on the seat has been spared an immediate jail sentence.

Evan Brown, 27, of Friends Road in Norwich, left his victim with permanent facial scarring and was “very fortunate” not to cause him serious eye injuries during the attack in January 2020.

Norwich Crown Court heard he was drunk when he punched the other man while holding a bottle which shattered.

The kitchen manager, who has become a father since the attack, had pleaded guilty to wounding with intent.

Appearing at court to be sentenced on Wednesday, Recorder Sarah Fraser Butlin told him the attack was so serious the custody threshold had been passed.

But she suspended a two year jail sentence for two years saying the attack had not been premeditated and he had shown remorse and had taken steps to address his behaviour.

Brown was ordered to carry out rehabilitation work, must comply with alcohol abstinence monitoring and was told to pay £175 compensation.
