A Turkish takeaway which launched last year in Norwich's Golden Triangle has launched a budget menu.

Istanbul Sunset Grill opened at 105 Unthank Road, next to Blue Joanna, last May after a 13-month slog to refurbish the building as it required extensive work.

It had also been delayed because the supply of building materials was impacted by the pandemic.

But fast forward to January 2023 and it has proved very popular in the area with families and students alike, with delivery also available through the major platforms.

It is owned by Goksan Erdogan, 59, who has decades of experience working in the food industry and he previously ran a fish and chip shop in the city.

Mr Erdogan is originally from Istanbul in Turkey and moved to the UK in 1988.

Alongside chef Baris Gungor, they serve kebabs, including lamb and chicken shish, wraps, pizzas and burgers, and many elements are made in-house including the sauces and falafel.

Mr Erdogan said: "Quality is very important and we make sure we use the best part of the meat and the best marination process - unlike some takeaways, we cook everything in front of the customers.

"We have had a great reaction and people are happy to see a new shop and that we have a five-star hygiene rating too."

To combat the cost of living crisis, he has introduced winter deals with selected meals for £3, £4 or £5 and the latter has the choice of a Margherita pizza or burger, chips and a drink.

Mr Erdogan added: "Some of our costs have gone up by 50pc - for example, oil used to be £16 for 20 litres and now it is £36.

"We can't increase prices accordingly as there is a cost of living crisis so with selected items we are working on a high turnover low margin basis.

"We encourage families, students and everyone else to come in and try our food."

Istanbul Sunset Grill is open Tuesday to Thursday and Sunday 1pm-10pm, Friday and Saturday 1pm-11pm and closed on Mondays.
