Parcel chaos is gripping the city with mere weeks to go until Christmas, with many customers asking if they can contact the Norwich depot directly.

It comes as passers-by near the Morgan Way Evri site were shocked to spot parcels strewn across the pathway outside.

The footage of the couriers - formally known as Hermes - was later posted to Facebook, which had folk waiting for parcels "fuming" to see the items dumped on the floor.

But people trying to track down their items directly will be disappointed to hear they cannot get hold of individual depots.

Judith Wilson, a spokeswoman for Evri, said: “Our local depots are purely operational and not able to help with parcel enquiries.

"Customers should contact their retailer/seller in the first instance or go to our website or app for tracking updates."

She added: “We are sorry that some customers are experiencing short delays in receiving their parcels.

“Like everyone in the sector we are experiencing higher than normal volumes driven in part by the Royal Mail Strikes as well as final-mile staffing shortages in some local areas.

“We have invested over £60 million in our network infrastructure so our service remains strong and we are successfully delivering over 3 million parcels every day with no delays or backlogs in the majority of our network.

“Our local teams are working hard to ensure that everything is delivered for Christmas.”

Among those waiting for items is Rebecca Ann from Hellesdon who has been waiting on some parcels since November 19.

When she came across the footage she was checking to see if she could see any of her missing post among the mess.

The 26 year old saId: "I ordered a few presents on November 19 to try and avoid the Black Friday rush and Royal Mail strikes - but it still hasn't arrived.

"Seeing the footage there looks to be no consideration as to what is in the packages and what it means to people.

"What's to say that people aren't just going up there to take a load of orders without the workers knowing?”
