1. Pear Tree Inn, Unthank Road 

Nestled on the junction with Park Lane, this small but perfectly formed pub is a great spot for a pint and there are comfy sofas by an open fire, where you will probably find resident pub husky Norway. 

There are regular live music nights, street food pop-ups and on Thursday evenings in the run-up to Christmas you can enjoy mulled wine and cheese.

2. Pogue Mahon's, Prince of Wales Road 

This Irish pub has a 1920s feel and is set over four floors, including a cabaret club in the basement with a secret entrance. 

Enjoy Guinness on tap and a range of other beers and spirits, with a supper club and Sunday roasts served with all the trimmings too.

3. The Ribs of Beef, Wensum Street 

Look out on the frosty River Wensum this winter as it runs under Fye Bridge at this two-floor pub.

It has a casual and welcoming atmosphere and you can tuck into food from La Repubblica Della Pizza, with a range of toppings to choose from.

4. The Fat Cat, West End Street 

This multiple CAMRA award-winning pub was opened by Colin and Marjie Keatley more than 30 years ago and it is a real ale lover's paradise. 

If you fancy warming up with some food you can bring tacos, toasties, burgers and more in from Harry's Soul Station around the corner.

5. The Rosebery, Rosebery Road 

This Victorian pub is a great place to escape the cold in the heart of NR3 and there is a great range of beers.

The Blues Kitchen has a residency there and serves an ever-changing menu of seasonal dishes and a Sunday lunch that gets fully booked every weekend.
