A gridlocked town has been left wondering why roadworks are taking place on two key routes at the same time.
Engineers are currently working in both Wroxham Road and North Walsham Road in Sprowston with some bus stops out of action on the routes and temporary traffic lights in place.
The works in North Walsham Road are taking place near the junction of Tills Road and will be carried out by gas company Cadent over several months.
Meanwhile, the Wroxham Road works are led by BT and are located at the junction of Allen's Avenue.
Those were due to finish on Friday (November 25) but a further set of BT works are then due to begin near Merlin Avenue and Parana Road on Monday, November 28, continuing until Friday, December 2.
Lorna Brigden, 70, who lives in Wroxham Road, said: "No one told us anything about this beforehand.
"There are a lot of school kids and many others who use this road."
Both Wroxham Road and North Walsham Road are routes which First buses run along.
Chris Speed, operations director at First Eastern Counties, said: “We are experiencing some delays at busy times of the day due to the simultaneous roadworks in the Sprowston area.
"We are monitoring the situation to try and minimise any disruption to our customers while the works take place."
Sprowston bus user Marcus Moore, 37, questioned why the roadworks have to take place at the same time.
"A lot of people have questioned the timing of it," Mr Moore said.
Amber Lawrance, 34, of North Walsham Road, said: "It can sometimes be difficult to get out in the car but these new gas pipes do need to be installed so I can't complain.
"There are large queues during rush hour because this is a key route but they are working quickly."
Monika Bonislawska, 44, also of North Walsham Road, added: "It will be a long time, especially over Christmas, but what they are doing is necessary."
A Norfolk County Council spokeswoman said: "It is unfortunate that these are taking place at the same time and will cause some traffic congestion but such maintenance and replacement works are essential to provide services for the local community.”
