Adam Dury, a forecaster at Norwich-based Weatherquest, said the conditions are expected to stick around for the majority of the day but will clear for a short period this evening.

"There will be about 10mm in Norwich today with gusts of up to 35mph later this afternoon and into the evening," he said.

The switch-on will begin at 5.45pm with free entertainment and the lights will be switched on at 7pm.

But Mr Dury confirmed there is due to be an easing of rainfall between 6pm and 8pm before the rain returns overnight until the early hours.

He added: "It'll still be cloudy with a bit of a breeze but should be a dry spell before the rain comes back later in the evening."
