A busy road in a city suburb is to close for eight days as Anglian Water installs a new 4km pipeline.

Salhouse Road in Rackheath will close between Monday, November 21, and Monday, November 28, from the NDR roundabout to the junction with the recycling plant.

There will also be a footpath closure in place between Salhouse Road and the Newman Road bridge for 21 weeks from Monday, November 21, to allow for safe access to the working area.

Fully signed diversions will be in place for both closures.

Work on the project, which will serve new properties in the Broadland area, is due to finish in June 2023.

Engineers have planned work to minimise disruption and impact on the local environment.

Most of the new pipeline will be installed in fields, using a directional drilling technique which minimises the need for digging, reducing the project’s carbon footprint and disruption to road users.

Becky Housden, customer experience coordinator for the project, said: “We’re committed to ensuring that everyone in the region has a resilient supply of the highest-quality drinking water.

"This scheme will help us secure this for new homes being built in Norwich."
