More than 400 people have had their say on the issue of parking on city streets around the University of East Anglia - amid concerns from families that parking spaces were being clogged up by staff and students.

Last month, Norwich City Council launched a three-week probe into parking on the residential roads around the university in the wake of long-running concerns from fed-up families around Earlham.

The consultation closed in March and officers at City Hall are analysing the results with a view to putting forward solutions to the parking problems.

At the moment there are two parking permit schemes in the streets, but council bosses wanted to know if the controlled parking zones need to be extended or if the hours of operation need to be changed.

The council also asked for views about parking issues in Eaton and Earlham parks, with city councillors for the area saying spaces are often full because staff and students from the university use them.

The issue with Eaton Park has come to the fore after work started on a long awaited new skate park and families have questioned whether the park has enough spaces to cope with the new users who will head there once it opens.

Brian Morrey, Norwich City Council executive member for sustainable city development, said people's comments would help review parking in the areas and identify whether there are problems.

He said: 'These regular reviews are vital to make sure that we are continuing to provide the best service for the area and addressing any issues which emerge.'

A spokeswoman for Norwich City Council said: 'We had a really good response to the consultation, with more than 400 responses.'

The responses will be analysed and suggestions for how to ease the parking problems will be presented to the Norwich Highways Agency Committee - made up of city and county councillors - next month.
