Defender Jason Shackell had a painful encounter with his former club that ended before half-time with a nasty facial injury.

The Barnsley skipper and ex-Canary lost two teeth in a clash of heads with City's Henri Lansbury and had to be substituted five minutes before the interval at Oakwell.

To make matters worse, while the Tykes were down to 10 men, Andrew Crofts scored his second goal in the Canaries' 2-0 victory.

By coincidence, 27-year-old Shackell had also been off the field receiving treatment when City scored their equaliser in the 2-1 win at Carrow Road earlier this season.

'Jason Shackell will be devastated because his two front teeth are gone, so we're out on the pitch looking for them to see if we can put them back in,' said Barnsley boss Mark Robins, who has a string of injury problems.

They had already lost right-back Bobby Hassell before Shackell went off, while midfielders Nathan Doyle and Jacob Mellis missed the match through injury.

'Bobby's calf tightened up and he came off. The injuries are piling up and we'll see what the resolve is of the players we have,' said Robins, bitterly disappointment with his side's display after the 3-3 draw at Leeds in midweek.

He said: 'It was chalk and cheese – you can't even compare the two.

'We didn't perform, we didn't do any of the things that we know we can do. We made it an easy afternoon for Norwich because we weren't helping ourselves. We didn't work hard enough up front and we didn't play the conditions as well as they did.

'It was a difficult surface but it's one of those bad days at the office and we have to move past it and get on with things.'

Loan striker Marlon Harewood, signed from Blackpool, replaced Hassell after 25 minutes and Robins said he was pleased to have him on board.

He said: 'Marlon signed this morning and it's the first time he's met his team-mates. I couldn't resist the temptation to put him on at the first opportunity so I did that. He's got a lot in the locker so I'm looking for more from him – from all the strikers, in fact, because we didn't get a great deal from them today.

'That was where the great news ended today. It's symptomatic of our season – a great performance, the players are up, the fans are up and today it's been a kick in the teeth in more ways than one.'
