A Norwich singer is taking to the stage to put on a charity concert in memory of his father.

Thirty-eight-year-old Shane Brown has organised the show A Concert for Caister to raise funds for the independent Caister Lifeboat as a tribute to his dad David 'Buster' Brown.

He will perform in the concert with fellow show organisers Netty White, from Brundall, and Kaya Thorpe, from Carlton Colville, at Brundall Memorial Hall on Saturday, September 8.

Shane, whose lives in Wessex Street, Norwich, said: 'It will be a very light-hearted event because that is what Dad would have wanted.

'We will open with a medley of 50s and 60s hits and the show will cover a number of genres of music from the last 70 years, from swing to country and from rock'n'roll to musicals, with songs from Miss Saigon, My Fair Lady and Cabaret.

'Songs will also include those associated with the likes of The Beatles, Elvis, The Eagles, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Buddy Holly, Dolly Parton, Neil Sedaka and Tom Jones.'

David, who was married to Shane's mum Betty for 57 years, lived in Brundall for more than 30 years before they moved to Blofield last summer,

He was 76 when he died in March this year after being ill for a long time with emphysema.

Shane said: 'Netty and I do these concerts about once or twice a year, and so one raising money for charity in dad's name seemed like the obvious thing to do.

'Dad used to attend each concert we did until his health got the better of him a few years ago and he wasn't able to come any more.

'However he did manage to attend a concert we did just over a year ago, surprising both Netty and I with his unexpected appearance.'

Shane said his father had been in the Royal Navy for 14 years from 1952 until 1966, and had also worked for Brooms boatyard and Silverline in Brundall.

A Concert for Caister at Brundall Memorial Hall starts at 7.30pm on Saturday, September 8.

Tickets for the concert cost 5 and are available from Brundall Pet and Hardware and on the door.

Caister is the home of the first of only two offshore lifeboats in the UK that is independent of the RNLI.

Caister Lifeboat has been an independent charity for 40 years.
