‘Having complete strangers tell you how amazing you are was great’ - Cancer survivor takes to London catwalk

I thought by today I would be feeling a bit deflated now that the show is over, but I am still buzzing from the experience. The last few days have been a big mixture of emotions.

The models had dinner the night before the show, which was great to share our nerves and excitement about the day.

First thing the following morning we were in hair and make up, not quite believing the day was upon us.

It was when we did the dress rehearsal (with very little time to get through it) that the nerves really kicked in. My legs were shaking going down the catwalk and at that stage I wondered if I would really be able to do it in front of a massive audience. Waiting backstage before the afternoon show was hard. I had to keep breathing and tell myself that I can do this, wobbly legs or not.

I was still nervous when I walked onto the catwalk but seeing everyone clap and cheer us on made all the difference. I thoroughly enjoyed it and also lapped up the attention after the show. Having complete strangers tell you how amazing you are was great!

We were all a lot calmer in the hours leading up to the evening show. The glass of champagne must have helped! Also knowing that my family were in the audience made a huge difference and I couldn't wait to get out there and make them and the whole room proud.

I was giddy with excitement when I heard my family cheer at a picture of me on the big screen whilst I was waiting in the wings seconds before I made my first appearance of the evening. That was the final boost of excitement, I absolutely loved every second from then on; nerves were obliterated.

After the evening show I was on such a high, it was like being at the best party ever. I can honestly say it was one of the best days of my life and without a doubt the most uplifting experience since my diagnosis.

I cannot thank Breast Cancer Care enough for allowing me to be part of this magical day and of course my fellow models, every one of which I gained something positive from. I really didn't expect the bond between us to become so close. There were several unforgettable, memorable moments (including the scene being escorted down the catwalk by gorgeous male models!) But being able to make my mum proud was the absolute highlight.
