Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler has rejected reports that striker Simeon Jackson could be on his way to Norwich City but admitted: “Everybody has their price.”

The 23-year-old forward was said to be a target for the Canaries after scoring 18 times for the Gills last season.

But Hessenthaler believes Jackson will line up with him in League Two in the new season. He said: “As far as I'm concerned I will see him on July 1 for pre-season training to push on and get him fit for the campaign ahead. The speculation doesn't surprise me because he's quick and scores goals. There will always be interest in players like that.

“I've had a chat with him over the phone and he's committed to the club. But everybody has their price, I don't want to lose him but if its right for both parties then so be it.”

Gillingham have valued the Canada international at 1.5 million in the past, but with only a year remaining on his contract, they may be forced to lower their sights rather than allowing him to leave on a free transfer next summer.

Jackson scored a penalty against the Canaries in the 1-1 draw in League One last October, but played only the last seven minutes of the return fixture in April when City clinched the title with a 2-0 win. Gillingham visit Carrow Road in the opening week of the season, playing a Carling Cup first round tie on Tuesday, August 10.

t Meanwhile, Danny Kelly, released by City at the end of last season, has joined League Two club Barnet.

The versatile 19-year-old, who can play as a striker or central defender, was on the bench four times for the Canaries last season but failed to make a first team appearance.

Kelly, who has captained Republic of Ireland Under-19s, signed for the Bees along with Dagenham & Redbridge defender Anwar Uddin. Manager Mark Stimson said: “He is another young man with potential.”

t Full-back Michael Rose, who made 12 appearances for City during a loan spell from Stockport last season, is set to join Swindon.
