Each week we put someone in the hot seat and ask them 10 questions about themselves. This week we spoke with Ivor Novello-winning singer Scott Matthews, who will be performing at Norwich Arts Centre on May 1.

• Describe Norwich in three words…

Canaries, Delia, Cathedral.

• If you were stranded on a desert island with three other people, who would you want them to be?

My family. My wife Sally, son Elliott and my cat, Pixie.

• If you could be anyone else, who would you be?

To quote Oscar Wilde 'Be yourself; everyone else is already taken'

• What's your mantra in life?

It's a lot to do with defying the odds I guess. I like the quote, 'Sometimes you have to get knocked down lower than you ever have been to stand back up taller than you ever were.' It feels fairly recurring for me and a sentence that fuels my fire.

• Which song defines your life?

I'd say my song 'Let's Get You Home' reflects a large portion of the core of my being. It's a constant reminder of who I am and what my ethos is about, which is essentially a home bird with an occasional vacating of its nest!

• How would you spend a perfect weekend in Norwich?

I always look to find the cosy coffee houses wherever I go and maybe check out some bookshops late afternoon with an evening finale watching a gig at the Arts Centre. I love that venue. It's one of my favourites on tour.

• What's your biggest fear?

Perhaps the fear of never being able to play the guitar again. It's brought me many experiences and treasured memories in life and I owe it a huge debt of gratitude.

• Would you rather spend a night in front of the TV or out in the city?

If it was a night in front of the TV watching old George Melies movies then count me in! I could watch his work for hours on end and feel transported back to the 1900s.

• What one thing could you never be without?

My wife, newborn son and my cat (hard to pick one so why not three!)

• What would you do if you won the lottery?

If I went on a selfish binge for a second, I'd buy a handful of vintage guitars, but I'd like to set up an animal charity, sort my family out and give the rest away. I'd feel pretty content come the evening, sitting on my porch sipping a beer, playing a lullaby on my new/ old '40s vintage Gibson guitar knowing I've given something back to someone who needs a hand.
