The closure of a key roundabout on the Norwich ring road is causing disruption on the first day back to work after the Bank Holiday weekend.

The Dereham Road/Sweet Briar roundabout will be completely closed for five days, between Monday, May 28 and Friday, June 1, so the revamped roundabout can be resurfaced.

Traffic is not able to cross the roundabout, affecting the tens of thousands of motorists who use the ring road and Dereham Road.

In a post on Twitter, Konnect Buses said their number five bus is unable to serve stops on Dereham Road between Larkman Lane and Holly Drive all this week.

BBC Norfolk Travel reported queues on Low Road, Hellesdon Road and Marl Pit Lane adding at least an extra 25 minutes to journeys towards Dereham Road, and queues in Earlham Green Lane and Larkman Lane adding an extra 10-15 minutes at 8am.

At 8.50am BBC Radio Norfolk reported an extra half an hour on journeys out of the city from Earlham Green Lane onto Larkman Lane.

The route from Costessey to Dereham Road involves a bridge on Marlpit Lane in New Costessey which has a weight restriction and therefore should not be used by most lorries.

Low Road past Hospital Lane towards Dereham Road currently has 25 minute queues.
