More concerns have been raised over changes to the city's bus routes, with the number 12 no longer travelling to the hospital.

Bus company First announced a swathe of changes to routes in Norwich earlier this month, with some of the changes, which come into effect on Sunday, January 15, proving unpopular.

Now a regular passenger on the number 12 route, from Stalham, Wroxham, Dussindale and Thorpe St Andrew into the city, says stopping it from continuing on to the hospital will lead to many missed appointments.

Mary White, 62, from Yarmouth Road in Thorpe St Andrew, and her husband Andrew often use the route to attend the eye clinic at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

She said: “I do think it’s bad as the hospital is one of the places you don’t want to drive to as parking is so bad there.

“Also, if they put eye drops in then you don’t know if you are going to be safe to drive.

“It will mean getting off in the city centre and trying to get the number 24, which is always very busy.

“People don’t know about the changes and those with appointments next week may end up being too late and missing their appointments.”

First says the service to the hospital will now be added on to the end of route 11, which travels from Sprowston into the city centre and users of the number 12 route will be able to change in the city centre to get the 11 or 24, of which there are a combined six buses an hour. The number 12 will get into the city centre at quarter to and quarter past the hour, and the 24 should leave the city centre for the N&N within five minutes, and the number 11 within about 13 minutes.

A spokesman said: “Passengers should not have to wait more than five minutes.

“There used to be just two buses running directly to the hospital every hour, so although they will have to change there will be more buses.

“Very few people were making the journey all the way through to the hospital on the 12.”
