One lucky driver was shocked when his phone rang live on Radio Heart from the Castle Mall, Norwich, to be told they were the winner of a brand new Kia Rio SR7 as their ticket had just been drawn in the Rotary prize draw.

At first, John Beck thought it was a wind-up, or someone trying to sell him something. When he realised it was genuine, he could not believe his good fortune.

When Mr Beck visited the NMG showroom, in Mile Cross Lane, Norwich, to look at the Rio he had won, he told NMG managing director Grant Long that only that morning he had been discussing how nice it would be to win the lottery, having never won anything in his life.

Kia dealer Norfolk Motor Group was delighted to partner Wroxham Bure Valley Rotary Club in its 2016 summer project to raise much-needed funds for three fabulous local charities – East Anglian Air Ambulance, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices nook appeal and the End Polio Now campaign.

NMG agreed to help Rotary when approached by Rotary member and NMG Kia customer Paul Corfield, who had been charged with raising support for the club’s quest, by supporting the vehicle price with assistance from Kia Motors. NMG also bought a lottery ticket for every customer who purchased a car from NMG while the promotion ran.

Mr Beck was not an NMG customer before this but was clearly delighted with his new Rio SR7 – it is even in Norwich City canary yellow.

The exact fund-raising total is yet to be confirmed but the Rotary club exceeded its target and expectations, much to the delight of president Rosemary Youngs, Mr Corfield and the committee, so it looks as though the three charities will receive a lovely Christmas gift.

Mr Beck and his partner were given a send-off by members of the Rotary Club, East Anglian Air Ambulance and NMG staff when he collected his car.
