Calls have been made for an eyesore former Norwich pub site to be tidied up and brought back into some kind of use.

The King's Arms in Mile Cross Road served its last pint in early 2000 and it has been an eyesore blighted by vandals and fly tippers ever since.

Recently one of the boards surrounding the site was pushed over and hundreds of car tyres dumped on the pub's former car park.

The windows of the building, which dates back to the 1930s, are also smashed and the property presents an unsightly scene to thousands of motorists who drive by it every day.

City councillor for Mile Cross Deborah Gihawi, pictured at the site, has had enough of the eyesore and has called on City Hall to trace the owner so they can come back and tidy it up.

She said: 'I understand it is privately owned, but the developer no longer lives in this area. When it was bought I understand that they wanted to develop it. But since then, for unknown reasons, they have not done anything with it.

'The council does not have the power to do anything with it, but City Hall is going to track down the owner to see if they can come and tidy it up. It's disgraceful at present.'

John Bowhill, who lives in nearby Woodward Road, is worried that someone could put a light to the tyres and the whole site could go up in flames.

He said: 'It's just a disaster waiting to happen if someone puts a light to all those tyres. The windows are smashed and it just looks terrible. Something needs to be done to it.'

Another neighbour, who did not wish to be named, added: 'It's disgusting and I think they should knock it down.'

The Evening News revealed four years ago that the building was about to get a makeover, but that never happened.

Planning permission was previously granted to extend it to form six flats and build five new flats, but permission is now believed to have expired.
