Why do we still not have adequate mobile phone reception in Norfolk and Suffolk?

Seasoned travellers will all have their own stories of unlikely places where they can get strong mobile phone reception.

Mountain tops, deserts, isolated steppes - they have all been cited as perfect 4G spots.

So we can go halfway around the world and still surf the internet, send photos and check work emails. But we only need to go a little way down the road in Norfolk and Suffolk for our signal to drop out.

It is immensely frustrating.

MORE: 4G or not 4G: How much of Norfolk is really getting phone coverage? It's not as if mobile phones and the internet are new inventions. The phone firms have had plenty of time to get used to the idea of providing reliable service to everybody: the fact that their business depends on it makes it all the more perplexing.

Yes, things are improving. But it is shameful that there are any not-spots at all. People's lives and businesses revolve around their phone and internet signal. In some ways, it drives our economy.

It is a cliché, but it is still true to say that in 2017 this should not even be an issue. A good 4G signal should be as much taken for granted as our water and electricity supplies.

Businesses choose their locations partly on the basis of 4G. Some people select their holiday destinations using the same criterion. Both things are key to Norfolk and Suffolk's prosperity.

So, yet again we say this to the phone firms - give us all a signal that is clear and quick. Are you receiving the message?
