Thomas Randle was delighted to have secured his first sport prototype podium in the latest round of the LMP UK Cup and even more pleased for co-driver Mike Newbould who stood on the rostrum for the very first time.

'We were so close to claiming a podium at Donington and had the pace to claim one during Saturday's race but unfortunately things didn't go our way,' said the Kenninghall racer.

'To finally stand up there was terrific, and this being Mike's first ever podium in motor racing is fantastic.'

Newbould started the Douglas Motorsport tended Ligier LMP3 sports prototype for 20 laps of the Brands Hatch circuit and after a solid opening session handed over to the local racer.

'After Mike handed the car to me, I just pushed as hard as I could. The car was super quick and narrowly missed out on the lap record by six thousandths of a second,' added Randle as he finished in fourth place.

The second race followed a similar pattern with Randle taking over for the second part of the race but this time he did set the race's fastest lap but also had to serve a penalty as his exchange with Newbould was one second too quick.

'I had to serve a stop-go penalty but I managed to get back up to fourth and after Jamie Spence's retirement that promoted us to third in the results,' explained Randle.

Downham Market's Oliver Clarke secured his first Senior Karting podium in an amazing weekend of racing in Salbris, France.

The West Norfolk youngster, who has to race as a senior on the continent, had to overcome a poor qualifying session which saw him start all three heats from the rear of the grid.

Undeterred Clarke raced through to a pair of third places topped off with a second place finish. This allowed him to start the pre-final, similar to a semi-final in football, in fifth place which he converted into second place.

'I am really pleased to get my first senior podium, it has been a big learning curve and I have enjoyed the quality and the demands of this high level racing,' he said.

'In all I passed 47 karts, the most overtakes of anyone racing out there.'
