Tonight Norwich City's current team go in search of the sixth League Cup semi-final in the club's history.

Ahead of tonight's quarter-final against Paul Lambert's Aston Villa at Carrow Road, we asked for your best memories of the Canaries in the cup competition they have won twice.

Here is a selection of the best responses.

Andy Smith - Attleborough

1985 stands out in my family's memory. For the first leg of the semi-final (against Ipswich Town) myself, wife Margaret, Richard (10) and Kevin (7) were at Portman Road at 9am to get tickets for the afternoon game.

For the return leg my wife and Kevin did not go as he had to go to school the next day. If that wasn't bad enough my wife decided he could not go to the final for the same reason.

She tried to console him with these words 'you can go to Wembley next time Norwich get there'. Twenty-seven years later, despite the Zenith Data Systems Cup and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy hopes, Kevin is still waiting and hoping this is going to be our year.

Richie Temple - Gorleston

I was clearing my attic out a while back and found an old scrapbook from my school days, many moons ago!

It was part of an English coursework where we had to keep a record of events of the year (1985). Obviously the semi-final at Carrow Road against Ipswich was a classic, as was the final.

A 14-year-old at the time - so excuse the grammar and spelling!

The coursework begins: 'We left from Gorleston at the library in the High Street. We went by Caroline Seagull Coaches. We being myself, my sister Tracey, my dad and my grandad.

'It was a long journey and after we eventually arrived there was only 15 minutes before kick-off. While I was buying a flag and programme some Sunderland fans came up and shook our hands and wished Norwich luck - the fans were so friendly it was unbelievable.'

Richard Durrant - Bourne, Lincolnshire

I recall the League Cup semi-final match against Chelsea in 1973 at Stamford Bridge. I was at secondary school at the time and organised a coach for my mates and other Norwich supporters to go there.

It was a great night and quite a shock really to many as we came out victors 2-0 (eventually winning 3-0 on aggregate after a 1-0 win at Carrow Road in the second leg).

One of my memories was the singing of On the Ball City that night and to my recollection this was possibly the first time this had been sung for many years.

I had never heard it before and was told this used to be sung in the 1959 cup run but had not been sung for years. Some had learnt the song and resurrected it that night, and from that moment it has been sung right up to today of course.

Pete Wilkinson - Hampshire

I have been a long-time supporter since 1959, when I remember as a boy listening to Norwich's exploits in the FA Cup games on the radio whilst living in London.

Nowadays I live down in Hampshire but every season I usually make two or three trips to Carrow Road and various trips to away games that are within easy reach from the South Coast.

I do remember the famous League Cup success of 1984-5 and was lucky enough to go to two of the games. One was the final as any who went to it will remember had a tremendous atmosphere and was rightly called the 'friendly final' due to the excellent rapport between Sunderland and Norwich fans.

Apart from the penalty miss Sunderland rarely looked like threatening Norwich and despite it being a scrappy goal Norwich did really fully deserve to win.

Perhaps the strangest game I went to that season was the other League Cup game I attended, on Tuesday evening 6th November which was a short 45-minute drive away for me - Aldershot v Norwich in a third-round replay. Norwich had been held to a 0-0 draw in the first game.

Driving up it had become a little misty but on arrival at this very small ground I could see both ends of the pitch. As the game went on the mist swirled in and rapidly became fog. I could not see either goal-line area from my sideline position.

I can honestly say I went to a four-goal win for Norwich but saw none of the goals although I did hear them – I really don't think it would have been played nowadays.

Anyway I had a much longer crawl home in the fog that took over two hours but Norwich were on their way to a memorable League Cup campaign!
