Some Norwich City fans may be worried about any January vultures circling James Maddison – but the man himself hasn't given it a thought.

Much has been written about the 21-year-old's breakthrough season in the Championship and the midfielder's current contract ties him to Carrow Road until the summer of 2021 at the earliest.

However, City's potential financial issues should they fail to earn promotion this season could mean their resolve is sorely test by any significant bids for an England Under-21 player that appears to have the potential to make it all the way to the top.

'We hadn't won a game in eight (before Saturday) – so January is the last thing on my mind to be honest,' said Maddison.

'I'm just focusing on putting in a good run of performances.

'This is my first run of games in the Championship. I'm not looking too far ahead and I'll just keep focusing on my form for Norwich.

'I've always said I've known I've got the ability and I'm a confident boy. I know I've got the ability to go and make it happen.

'It's just about getting that opportunity and taking it, which I have done so far.

'And as I've seen people say, it's about doing it over a long period of time and not a short one. Hopefully I can continue to do that.'

Someone else hoping that happens will be Daniel Farke and Maddison admitted he had been impressed by how well Norwich's head coach had dealt with City's eight game winless run and the forthcoming pressure.

Maddison added: 'He's been good, he's been his normal self. Managers can fold under pressure and obviously it's a business, at the end of the day. Managers do get sacked and it's part of football.

'But he's stayed true to himself and his philosophy, and we've worked hard on the little things. We've tried to tweak those little things because it was a very bad run for us – and it paid off.'
