After a successful international break Canaries keeper Angus Gunn is ready and raring to get back into Championship action.

The Manchester City loanee followed up his 10th cap for the England U21s in a 2-0 qualifying win in Ukraine with promotion to the senior squad for the first time.

Having joined up with his international team-mates on the back of three successive defeats the 21-year-old is feeling refreshed for City’s challenges ahead of this afternoon’s Carrow Road battle with Barnsley.

“Every positive experience you have to take it and use it as something to egg you on,” said Gunn.

“It was a tough few weeks before the international break and with the positive things when I went away, it was good to take my mind off things and come back with a fresh mind.

“I think a lot of the lads got time to rest because it was a very tough month we had, so I think a lot of the lads had a good break and then came back and had a good week of training, so in that respect, I’ve been training all week.

“It’s a little bit difficult but everybody is looking forward to the game and getting a positive result.”

It is also five home games without a win for the Canaries but the keeper feels performances have deserved better than that worrying run.

“I think we’ve done pretty well at home performance-wise, obviously the results haven’t been good enough, but we want to put that right,” Gunn said.

“If we start games like we have done at home then we’ll be all-right, we need to take our first chance, our second chance, and get ahead in the game.

“If we do that then we can really push on and score more goals, it’s just about putting them away.”

Today’s game also brings a reunion with Barnsley midfielder Cameron McGeehan, who played alongside the likes of Gunn and Josh Murphy as a youngster in City’s academy system.

“He did great for the academy here and obviously was the captain when they won the Youth Cup,” the keeper added, having missed the 2013 FA Youth Cup win after his switch to Manchester City. “I remember him coming here when I was probably 14 or 15, he came in from Chelsea and he’s a great lad, he’s a great friend of mine and it’ll be good to see him.

“He’s done well, he had a pretty serious injury last season and he’s done well to get back so I’m happy for him that he’s doing well at the moment but hopefully we can keep him quiet.”
