After a three-year Snetterton sojourn, when the Citroen 2CV 24 Hour Race took place at Anglesey, the day night race returns to the Norfolk circuit this weekend and with it the opportunity to topple the dominant Team Lion crew.
Norfolk-born Martin Harold, and his Lion crews, dominated all three events in Wales and he has again assembled a twin assault on this iconic event in an attempt to take his first 'home based' victory.
Underpinning all three victories has been Mr 2CV, Pete Sparrow, who has nine 24 Hour victories to his name and is reunited with Alec Graham and former Norfolk resident David O'Keefe, who are both five time winners, to make a formidable team.
In the second Lion car is Roy Eastwood, Ron Mears and Colin Stancombe and they should not be underestimated for a podium place in the Duff Morgan supported event.
The Wisbech-based Team Gadget Racing is always a front running outfit and has the reigning champion Lien Davies leading its charge, joined by Ainslie Bousfield, Simon Clarke and Tom Perry, which could allow them to challenge Team Lion.
The Greg Page Watton-based Team Iceni Racing is taking the challenge very seriously this year with Malcolm Edeson, Ryan Savage and Darren Partridge on the driving roster.
The local outfit has three strong engines with most teams having to make an exchange during the event, which can be carried out in under eight minutes, and is a necessary requirement for success with a podium place well within their grasp.
Baycon Racing which has old hand Phil Myatt on board plus father and son, Sandro and Luca Proietti, has the potential to shake up the order and could easily spring a surprise come the end of the race at 5pm Sunday evening.
Two other categories race concurrently with the 2CV's with a number of European-based 2CV's, normally BMW powered, and the older series Mini's adding variety.
Completing the weekend's race programme are the British SuperKart Championships, with three races for each of the two series currently led by Paul Platt and Liam Morley respectively, while the MGOC race twice on Saturday, with David Mellor currently on a four race winning streak, with racing getting underway from 10.50am on Saturday morning.
