Norwich Cup favourites Bob Carter are through to this season's quarter-finals after proving far too strong for Bradwell, despite being away from home at an unfamiliar venue.

The visitors reeled off a 14-2 points win, dropping only one game in the second half. Elaine Willies, John Turner and Melvin Woods won their games 12-2 and 7-2 while in the pairs Jason Woods and Simon Willies won 15-4 and 10-4 and Trevor Brown and Jamie Forster won 19-2 and 7-5.

Robert Howlett's triple opened with a 6-3 win but lost 16-7 to Sandra Tungate, Mike Tate and Jackie Fortescue.

Harling are also through after a close match at home to Hevingham was decided in the final session of pairs. Harling enjoyed a great start with Val Easter, George Hume and Steve Easter winning 10-4 and Val Hester, Edward Jones and Matt Cunningham winning 7-3. Hevingham levelled in the pairs with Pat Williamson and Steve Hall winning 6-5 and David Bunn and David Sharpe winning 13-4.

The triples returned to the mats for session three and both games were drawn, leaving the score tied at 6-6 on points with just the last session of pairs to play. This time the scores were reversed, with both Harling pairs winning as Mo Tarrant and Mike Tarrant beat Bunn and Sharpe 15-3 and Jill and Colin Hayman beat Williamson and Hall 5-4.

Hevingham defeated Halvergate 13-11 in the first leg of their Bure Cup first round tie, but it could have been so much better after they had built up an 8-4 interval lead. Hevingham will have a tough task on their hands defending a narrow two-point lead in the second leg away from home.

The four Bure Triples Championship heats were played with the winners and runners-up qualifying for the Finals Night. At Thorpe Marriott, Betty Cox, David Sharpe and Steve Hall of Hevingham won with maximum points while Ray Lamb, Morgan Warnes and Simon Warnes of Horsford BC came second. At the Woodbastwick heat, Sheila Redwood, Richard Perkins and John Jarvis of Thorpe Marriott won ahead of Jason Woods, Keith Cooke and Robbie Lamb of Halvergate. John Turner, Simon Willies and Melly Woods of East Tuddenham won at Horsford Heroes with Brenda Sizer, Di Boswell and Mike Boswell second. Maximum points were earned by Woodbastwick's Peter Jablonowski, Norma Jablonowski and Willie Jefferies at East Tuddenham with Tony Turner, Sylvia Turner and Kath Frost runners-up.

The British Isles Championships were held in Belfast at the weekend with three Norfolk Squad players selected for England. Gary Best represented England in the Premier Team International event while David Lamb and Simon Willies were in the England A team International side. In the Premier section Ireland won the Team Championship title as well as the Singles, Pairs & Triples titles with Wales winning the Premier Fours. In the A Team Championships, Ireland won the Team Championship title as well as the Singles, Triples and Fours titles. Wales won the A Team Triples title. It will certainly prove disappointing for England that they failed to win a single title over the weekend.
