Few understand the path Jon Rowe is treading at Norwich City better than Josh Murphy, and he believes the youngster has the mentality to deal with football's hard edges.

Rowe has enjoyed a blistering first season of consistent senior football and played a key role in the Canaries' campaign even if game time has been limited of late owing to a hamstring injury.

He will hope to play a significant role in City's play-off campaign if they get there, having been the difference-maker on so many occasions throughout the Championship season.

Rowe's return has given head coach David Wagner a welcome selection headache in forward areas in the final weeks of the season.

Murphy, who is enjoying a personal comeback campaign with Oxford United in League One, knows the journey that Rowe is on at Carrow Road having graduated through the Canaries academy himself.

He made 108 appearances for Norwich, scoring on 20 occasions before earning an £11million move to then Premier League Cardiff in 2018.

Murphy, 29, has seen the light and dark aspects of the professional game and believes Rowe's approach to his career equips him well to deal with adversity should it come his way.

“Jon Rowe has had an outstanding season. I know he’s not played recently through injury, but he seems like a strong and resilient kid," Murphy told the Pink Un via Sky Bet.

"The message that I’d give to him is to just stick in there, the game is full of ups and downs, highs and lows, but you can see from his mentality that nothing fazes him.

"He gets a long injury and comes back with the bit between his teeth, and I think it’s just always about striving to be the best because even in a dip of form one goal can change everything and get you back to where you want to be.

“I don’t think I need to give him much advice because he’s flying at the moment. I hope he continues his upwards trajectory, Norwich are in the Play-Offs and hopefully he can play a big part in getting them back to the Premier League, where the club deserve to be.”
