Controversial plans for 180 new homes in a south Norfolk village will come before decision makers today.

Proposals for the new development on greenfield land on the edge of Mulbarton, near Norwich, have prompted opposition from the parish council and 149 letters of objection from local residents.

However, the scheme at Long Lane by Welbeck Strategic Land is being tipped for approval by officers at a South Norfolk Council meeting today.

Planning officers have identified the land as a preferred site for new housing in the Greater Norwich area. However, they would like 150 homes to be the limit for the 13ha of land. They add that there is also a lack of five year land supply in the area for new housing.

Local people have raised concern about increased flooding, loss of privacy for neighbours, the density of the proposals, and the increased traffic in the area.

Officials from Mulbarton Primary School and Humbleyard doctors surgery have written in support of the scheme because the development would lead to the investment in new facilities.
