Shoppers and staff were evacuated from a supermarket after a hoax bomb scare.

Someone phoned the Morrisons supermarket in Postmill Close, Wymondham yesterday morning (Monday, May 22) and claimed there was a bomb on the premises.

However after a police search it was established that the call was a hoax.

A Norfolk Constabulary spokesman said officers had launched an investigation into the incident.

A spokesman for the force said: 'Police were called at 10.53am to reports that someone had phoned the store and made claims there was a bomb on the premises.

'The shop was evacuated as a precaution whilst a search was carried out by officers; however, it was established that the call was a hoax.

'Enquiries are on-going.'

The incident was resolved just before midday.

Gail Peel, from Wymondham, was among the customers there.

She said: 'We saw police cars and everyone outside waiting in the car park.

'We were talking to some people in the car beside us for about half an hour then we were let into Morrisons, which is when we heard people saying there was a bomb scare.'

A spokesman for Morrisons confirmed the store had been evacuated, but did not comment further.
