Four teams from three Norfolk junior schools took part in a competition to see who could build the tallest jelly tower on day two of the Royal Norfolk Show.
Using stock standard jelly supplied by Tescos, the teams had four weeks to practice using different ingredients to build the tallest jelly tower. Rules state that any product can be used as long as it edible. Langley Preparatory School at Taverham Hall entered two teams while Brundall Primary School and Little Melton were each represented by a team. Both Langley teams and Little Melton used couscous to strengthen their jelly, while the Brundall team used sweets. The teams had 30 minutes to construct their towers, which then had to stand for 10 minutes without collapsing. The competition was run by the Royal Society of Chemistry, Institute of Physics and the Teacher Scientist Network. One of the Langley teams finished first with a tower of 34cm high followed by Little Melton at 19cm.
