A group of concerned residents have raised fears that a business's plans to run a through-the-night alcohol delivery service in the heart of their community will cause 'a constant disturbance'.
Norwich company S&S Enterprises has made a premises licensing application to run alcohol delivery services from an industrial unit in Denmark Opening which will run until 5am.
And now, residents of nearby Layson Drive are concerned about excessive noise from delivery vehicles, and that it could pave the way for other businesses to open later.
Resident,Terry Day, 67, said: 'Where the site is, there are houses on three sides of it. In the summer we get noise from all the different units.
'The one S&S Enterprises want to run from has metal gates and a metal shutter that we can hear every time they open and close. It's going to cause a constant disturbance to our sleep.
'There's no need for people to be sending out for alcohol at 11pm.'
Colin Barclay, 63, said: 'It's not the alcohol services exactly, it's the time they'll be running it. All businesses around here close by 6.30pm and are not open on Sundays. S&S Enterprises want to run this service every day until 5am. My concern is the amount of noise we'll get from this.'
Sewell ward city councillor, Julie Brociek-Coulton, said: 'Although the delivery vehicles may be coming out once or twice a night, it's like an echo chamber down the road and residents are worried about other garages joining in with operating later hours.
'It's not an industrial estate, elderly people live in the area and we've had issues where ambulances can't park because those working in the industrial units are parking on double yellow lines.'
We were unable to contact S&S Enterprises for a comment.
In their submission for a licence to Norwich City Council, the applicant said: 'Our service allows people to stay at home, avoiding late night trips to a cash point and/or a local off licence. Customers will not be able to, at any time, visit the premises.
'We will only fulfil an order if it is received at a residential or commercial address.'
The company said it will adopt the Think 25 policy, and staff will refuse service to people deemed to be too intoxicated.
