A mother who has had surgery for breast cancer and her daughter are both set to take part in a sponsored head shave for charity.

Devoted mum-of-two Tammy Sheridan, 33, from North Walsham, who underwent surgery earlier this year after discovering a lump in her breast, is now set to take part in a sponsored head shave with her 16-year-old daughter Kayleigh to raise funds for Cancer Research.

The head shave, which has been organised with the help of Ms Sheridan's sister-in-Law Debbie, will be held at Castaways Holiday Village, in Bacton on May 23, at 7.30pm.

Ms Sheridan, who said she is so proud to have so much support from family and friends, was prompted to take part in the head shave after Kayleigh told her she wanted to do a sponsored head shave to raise awareness of breast cancer and help others suffering from the disease.

Ms Sheridan, who also has an eight-year-old daughter Katrina, decided rather than let chemotherapy take her hair she would join in with her daughter and have her hair shaved at the same time.

Speaking about the breast cancer Ms Sheridan said she had an inkling that something was wrong but decided to keep it quiet for fear of worrying her family.

She said: 'I didn't want to worry my children and my partner so I thought I would deal with it my own way. I had discovered a lump in my breast which seemed to be getting bigger'.

Her partner Ben Edwards sensed there was something wrong and eventually she confided in him.

After seeing her GP in January she was immediately referred to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital to undergo tests.

She said; 'When I heard the terrible news, I just burst into tears and I cried and cried. Those words – 'you have cancer' – are haunting; words I was dreading.

'Thoughts of not seeing my children grow up and not seeing my family and friends - I couldn't get these images out of my head.'

Supporters can sponsor the event or just drop in a donation and go along on the night, or ring Anna at Castaways on 01692 650436.
