A new app launched by Norwich Cathedral will allow visitors to get closer than ever before to the historic building's stunning collection of medieval roof boss sculptures.
Norwich Cathedral has over 1,000 roof bosses, more than any other cathedral in Christendom.
Sitting high from the vaults of the Cathedral Nave and Cloister, the colourful bosses share many Bible stories and are a testimony to the interest and importance of the art of storytelling in the late Middle Ages.
Now a new app has been created to help visitors gain a closer look at these medieval works of art.
Created by the University of York's Centre for the Study of Christianity and Culture and funded by the Jerusalem Trust, the app features photographs and descriptions of every roof boss in the cathedral.
It also allows visitors to explore the roof bosses' stories in stone by either following a journey through the Bible or the Christian Year or by simply navigating round a map of the Cathedral.
Dr Peter Doll, Canon Librarian at Norwich Cathedral, said: 'Norwich Cathedral is grateful for the support of the Jerusalem Trust and the cooperation of the Centre for Christianity and Culture at the University of York for the production of this new app.
'It will enable visitors and friends near and far to see and understand the glorious artistic and spiritual heritage of our roof bosses as never before.'
The Norwich Cathedral app is available for both Apple iOS (iPhone and iPad) devices and Android devices.
Visitors can download the free app by searching for Norwich Cathedral in the Apple App Store or Google Play.
