Police are to increase patrols around the University of East Anglia during freshers week.
Thousands of new and returning students will be arriving in the city over the next couple of weeks and officers will be around campus offering crime prevention advice and reassurance.
Officers are advising students to keep all doors and windows locked at their new accommodation, stick to well lit paths and drink responsibly.
Inspector Graham Dalton said: 'A lot of students may not be used to living alone so we're keen to highlight the importance of home security, such as closing windows and locking doors when you go out.
'We also understand that socialising is a big part of university life and alcohol can play a part in the good times; however, excessive amounts can lead to unexpected and unwanted consequences. My advice is to know your limits and stay within them.'
