They are a handful of names which stand alone on a war memorial in a village on the outskirts of Norwich.

But now organisers of a heritage day at St Margaret's Church, Drayton, are appealing for people to come forward to reveal their histories.

They will be featured as part of an exhibition at the church for this year's Heritage Open Day in September, to commemorate the start of the First World War.

Organiser Terry Riches said: 'Did you have a grandfather, great grandfather or any other relative who was born or lived in Drayton and played a part in the Great War, 1914 to 1918? If so, then you may be able to help.'

The men named on Drayton's War Memorial, housed in the church grounds, read: F.W. Bailey; T.E. Barrett; J.W. Clarke; B. Stevenson; C.E. Stevenson; C.P. Steward; S.S. Wainwright; C.W. Warnes; W.H. Waters, M.M.

So far basic service details of the men killed and named on the war memorial have been obtained but there is no detailed information or photographs of the men themselves.

Mr Riches added: 'In addition to the men named there were many others who fought or were involved in the First World War who happily returned home to their families but very little is known about these Drayton men and women.'

As well as featuring Drayton people involved in the conflict, the exhibition will display wedding photographs of couples who got married in St Margaret's over the years.

It will include photos of wedding dresses and a map showing the growth of Drayton over the centuries. The fundraising team have already had promises of photos from the 1940s and one from just after the First World War.
