Five people have been given suspended sentences following a mass brawl on a Norwich estate.
The sentencing at Norwich Crown Court today (Friday, April 21) follows a brawl on June 19 last year in Motum Road, North Earlham, in which up to 30 people were involved.
CCTV footage from two incidents from that day on the road were shown to the court. In the first, just past 2pm, Billy Newton, 19 from Motum Road, and another person were seen cycling along the road, and were then chased on foot by a bare-chested man - referred to as a member of a Jackson family - who lives in the same road.
The second incident was the brawl, which occurred about 7.25pm. As well as the adults involved in the affray, the footage shows a number of children present at the scene.
The court was told that although no-one was injured in the affray, a car was damaged, items were thrown at a house and makeshift weapons, and dogs, were used to threaten people.
Recorder Guy Ayers said the footage of the scene painted 'a very depressing picture'.
He said: 'Both incidents are very threatening.
'They show a group of people, many of who appear to be in drink, being mob-handed to the Jackson family.
'Some have armed themselves, others have taken dogs with them potentially to use as weapons.
'The most depressing part is the number of children that are seen. There is a great deal of aggression being show by those of you who have pleaded guilty.'
Mr Ayres added: 'No-one was actually injured in this incident.
'Most of you, if not all of you, regretted what had happened, but nevertheless this sort of confrontation or violence cannot go unmarked.'
Part of the disturbance was caught on camera by onlookers, with one video posted on Facebook showing a man carrying a metal object in his hand while police can also be seen restraining people while bystanders shouted.
Another video taken on Snapchat showed eight police cars on the road with the person who posted the video stating there were more then 25 police cars at the scene.
Police patrols in the area were stepped up following the disorder to 'offer reassurance to local residents'.
The sentences
-Billy Newton, 19, from Motum Road: Sentenced to eight months in a young offenders' institution, suspended for two years; 60 hours unpaid work; a 20-day rehabilitation requirement (RAR) and a 35-day accredited programme requirement (APR).
-Mark Hale, 29, from Earlham Grove: Sentenced to 12 months, suspended for two years, and a curfew for four months between 8pm and 6am which will be monitored electronically. He was also given a 10-day RAR and a 40-day APR.
-Jemma Wooldridge, 30, from Earlham Grove: Sentenced to 10 months, suspended for two years and 120 hours unpaid work.
-Jason Mulchay, 37, from Fugill Road, Norwich: Sentenced to 10 months, suspended for two years and 120 hours unpaid work.
-Danny Newton, 33, from Motum Road. Although he appeared along with the other defendants, his sentence was deferred for six months.
All five listed above admitted affray shortly after the incident, and a sixth man, Nathan Pitchford, 38, of Knowland Grove, Norwich, admitted affray following a plea hearing on March 21. Pitchford was sentenced to 12 months, suspended for two years, 150 hours unpaid work, and a 30-day RAR.
All six defendants were also made subject to a restraining order that they not contact Becky or Lisa Jackson or go to an address in Scarlet Road, Tuckswood, and another in Swafield Street, Bowthorpe.
