Council bosses have warned of 'severe disruption' to services today as snow brought by the Beast from the East weather front continues to cause problems across Norfolk.

Norwich City Council said that all bin collections in the city would be cancelled today because of the road conditions. They said a decision on collections tomorrow would be taken later.

City Hall also said non-emergency housing repairs would not be carried out and all viewings of social housing would be cancelled.

They said the council's contacts team on 0344 980 3333 was working with reduced numbers, but were available for urgent calls.

In South Norfolk, bin collections were also cancelled, with people urged to leave their bins out to be emptied as soon as possible.

West Norfolk Council also said all bin collections would be cancelled, with collections due today now due to be collected tomorrow.

They added: 'Unfortunately, this will affect other collections due later in the week. All collections will take place a day later.'

North Norfolk District Council also tweeted that bins would not be emptied. They tweeted: 'The Beast from the East has led to treacherous conditions in North Norfolk.

'We've therefore cancelled bin collections for today. Please ensure your bin is left out so crews can collect when safe to do so.'

Great Yarmouth Borough Council has also postponed waste and recycling collections. They said: 'Apologies, but the vehicles are 26 tonnes, so it's risky to take them onto slippery residential roads.'

They said people should leave their bins out and they would be collected as soon as possible.

The council also said customer services at the authority would be closing at midday, to enable staff to travel to and from work safely.

Bin collections were also suspended at Breckland Council, while Broadland District Council postponed its collections. They said: 'Please leave your bins out as normal by 7am on collection day and our crews will empty them when it's safe to do so.'

And Norfolk County Council asked people not to call the authority with non-urgent calls. They urged people to use the council's website for information or call later in the week.
