Two sisters are keeping their cousin's memory and dream alive by opening a beauty salon in her name.

Sixteen-year-old hair and beauty student Lisa Jermy was killed when a car mounted the pavement and crashed into her and a group of friends on the corner of Magdalen Road and Waterloo Road, in Norwich, in 2006.

Sadly Lisa, of Margaret Paston Avenue, in Mile Cross, was never able to fulfil her ambition to run a salon with her cousin Kelly Lawson, but Kelly, now 23, is ensuring their dream continues by opening a salon in Costessey with her 17-year-old sister Jaymin Waterhouse.

Kelly, who was studying hairdressing at Great Yarmouth College at the same time Lisa was studying at City College Norwich, said: 'Lisa was a lovely girl and we shared everything – our mums even dressed us the same when we were young.

'We were very close; there was only three months' difference between us. We grew up together and were always round each other's houses. We went to Norman First School and Mile Cross Middle together, and then I went to Aylsham High and Lisa went to the Blyth Jex. We always said we would like to own our own hairdressers, and after Lisa died I decided to make sure our ambition still happened.'

Kelly and Jaymin, a beauty therapist who trained at City College Norwich and who lives in Hevingham, decided to call their Hill Road salon Lilly's Hair and Beauty because Lil or Lilly was Lisa's nickname.

'It is nice because a lot of people ask where the name comes from and it is nice that we can talk about Lisa,' Kelly said.

'Every time we answer the phone we say her name, and we are sponsoring an under 13s Costessey girls football team so her name will also be on their T-shirts. It is keeping Lisa's memory alive which I think is really important. Lisa was so young when she died and we want to go on throughout our whole lives remembering her and telling everyone about her.'

Kelly, who lives in Dussindale, said Lisa's parents Peter and Maxine Jermy, and Lisa's brothers Jason and Marc Jermy had all helped with setting up the salon, and they had also had lots of support from other members of their close-knit family.

She said the family celebrated Lisa's birthday on October 31 every year, and this year, when Lisa would have turned 23, they let off helium balloons in her memory.

The family attends the RoadPeace remembrance services for road crash victims, and when Lilly's Hair and Beauty holds its official opening event on Sunday, December 16 Kelly and Jaymin will be raising funds for RoadPeace.

The event, from 12pm-6pm, will include a raffle, hopefully a visit from Santa, beauty treatments and other festivities.
