Norwich could soon boast its tenth McDonald's - but drivers fear it may add even more traffic to one of the busiest spots in the city.

Restaurant sources told this newspaper the famous golden arches would soon be arriving at Riverside Retail Park.

A planning application to change the use of the building from commercial use to a hot food takeaway was submitted for Units 7A and 7B in Albion Street - the former Poundland.

The industry source added there were whispers that some employees from other city branches would be moved over to the new Riverside restaurant.

The  outlet will bring the number of McDonald's in and around Norwich to double digits.

Currently, the city is home to nine of the restaurants with two nearby in Brundall and Wroxham.

The busy NR1 shopping hub has become notorious for delays, being dubbed a city traffic "blackspot".
