The ribbon and wrapping has been ripped off the annual festive treat from Cromer Pier to reveal a cheery package of sparkle and laughter.

A slicker, pacier show by devisor Di Cooke this year follows its summertime big sister by using a storyline.

The 12 days of Christmas theme goes from the office party and shopping, to church and the big day, with comedy, song and dance lining the whole route.

Headlining for a third year is Norfolk all-round entertainer Olly Day in a show that was made for him as a vehicle for his variety talents topped by comedy tuned to the same wavelength as the audience.

His solo comedy magic spot where, helped by a “volunteer” from the stalls, he also pulled plenty of witty ad libs from the hat had the crowd howling.

Comedy sidekick Dave Mac is old school - some of his solo material comes from the 11-plus era - but he is a good foil for Olly, and their 12 Days of Christmas song with a stage full of props was another highlight.

Singers Lulu Alexandra and Dale Page also work well together. Lulu’s sporting and skating prowess add an extra boost of energy to an-already buzzy show, and Dale, who headlined last year’s Sheringham panto, shows a composure beyond his tender years.

A six-strong dance troupe, who flip from pop to ballet, is bolstered by a platoon of charming children from Marlene’s School of Dancing.

The music, masterminded by Nigel Hogg, ranges from traditional festive singalongs to Take That, the new Military Wives Christmas song, and a brilliant comedy version of All the Chapel Bells Were Ringing - with a leave-with-a-smile-on-your-face finale from Glee.

This is a festive hamper of fun for all tastes.
