Live review: Eugene McGuinness at Norwich Sound and Vision

Eugene McGuinness should consider dropping the EU from his name - as his opening track sounds sonically identical to that of mid-90s Britpopers Gene.

His backing band, assembled in turtle-neck jumpers and pressed trousers, jangle their way through a set of well-polished indie-ness.

McGuinness presents himself as if leading a 1950s doo-wop outfit and sounds similar to Alex Turner from the Artic Monkeys fronting a super shiny Divine Comedy. Which is basically the premise for Turner’s side project The Last Shadow Puppets anyway.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, for a while, but there’s only so much baroque pop one man can take.
