This is one of the hardest reviews I’ve ever written.

Capturing Shappi Khorsandi in words is difficult: there’s a genuine warmth that transcends and enhances her comedy, with a charisma that is particularly suited to the Norwich Playhouse’s intimate stage.

Freed from the topical straightjacket of TV panel shows, she mixes biographical details with deliciously deceptive observational material – from her upbringing in Iran and London to her own experiences as a mum this is an intensely personal, affectionate and funny show.

She really is one of a kind, and a welcome voice in modern comedy - and easily one of the highlights of comedy at the Playhouse in 2011.

Last night’s show featured an unscheduled addition with an appearance by Shappi’s son, a twist that only added to the audience’s enjoyment. He may not be back in the remaining shows, but you shouldn’t miss them.
