Norwich Castle has been selected by the National Gallery to show a celebrated 16th century painting next month.

Between Saturday, March 3 and Thursday, April 15 one of the most important paintings of the Italian Renaissance period will be shown at the castle.

Titian’s Diana and Actaeon was saved for the nation in 2008 after a £50m public fundraising appeal. It is one of six mythologies which Titian created for King Philip II of Spain.

James Carswell, cabinet member for cultural services at Norfolk County Council, said: “It is an incredible honour and an utter privilege to bring this extraordinary painting to Norfolk so people of all ages and from all walks can see for themselves how very special it is.”
